The liberated territories have been declared the first green energy zone in Azerbaijan, Deputy Minister of Energy Elnur Soltanov told journalists, APA reports.

He noted that Azerbaijan has committed to achieving zero carbon emissions in these territories by 2050: “The goal of the steps being taken is to provide our citizens with high-quality energy and ensure a green energy transition. In Karabakh, electricity consumption is less than 40 megawatts, while electricity production exceeds 100 megawatts. Looking at interregional relations, we can see that Karabakh not only provides itself with green electricity, but also transfers it to other regions of our country. These figures are expected to increase multiple times. According to the most optimistic scenarios, the region's future demand will be around 1,000 megawatts. Our current production pace already exceeds this. So, Karabakh will not only meet its own needs in the future, but also provide other regions of the country with green energy.”

“Energy is divided into four value chains: production, transmission, distribution, and consumption. The first and second chains are almost completed. Currently, work continues on the distribution and consumption chains. The reason this work is ongoing is due to the continuous resettlement process. Since the process continues, so does work on these chains,” the deputy minister added.
