BP is currently working on the final investment decision for a 240-megawatt solar power plant in Jabrayil, said Gary Jones, BP’s Regional President for Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye, during his speech at the Baku Energy Forum, APA-Economics reports.
The regional president stated that the project will be implemented in cooperation with “Azerenerji” and will operate as a virtual power plant. A portion of the electricity generated under the project will support the regulation of the national grid, while the other part will be used to decarbonize BP’s Sangachal terminal. The goal is to reduce emissions from the terminal by 50 percent. Additionally, the fuel gas saved in this process will be redirected to Europe via the Southern Gas Corridor.
“This kind of holistic approach—addressing both production and the energy transition—is a core direction for BP’s future operations and they plan to apply this model more broadly across the region,” Gary Jones added.
