Baku. Nijat Mustafayev, Rashad Suleymanov - APA-Economics. Russia’s Transneft and the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) are negotiating to fill the Baku-Novorossiysk pipeline with Azeri oil alone, said Russia’s Trade Officer in Azerbaijan, Yuri Shedrin.
According to him, Russia offers to increase the flow of Azeri oil to 5 million tons via this route.
“The normal operation of this pipeline requires 5 million tons of crude oil”, he said.
He pointed out that there is no discussion on the reverse flow of oil through Baku-Novorossiysk.
Azerbaijan’s Azeri Light is a lighter crude oil and yields more light products at the refinery and less residue.
Because Azeri oil mixes with Russian crudes in Novorossiysk Port (the Black Sea), the mixture is branded as Urals.
Azerbaijan pumped 2 228 712.3 tons of oil via this route in 2007.
