Baku. Mubariz Aslanov – APA. “Nomination of Rustam Ibrahimbeyov’s candidacy for presidency by the National Council’s Initiative Group is illegal. Therefore, even if the documents are submitted to the Central Election Commission, they will not be registered and signature sheets will not be given,” deputy executive secretary of New Azerbaijan Party (YAP) Siyavush Novruzov told APA.

Novruzov noted that in accordance with the electoral legislation of Azerbaijan, CEC is to receive the documents on Ibrahimbeyov’s candidacy for presidency: “Following this, the issue of dual citizenship and liabilities before other countries will be considered in line with article #100 of the Azerbaijani Constitution. According to the consideration, his candidacy will not be registered and signature sheets will not be given. Rustam Ibrahimbeyov’s indicators are contrary to the Azerbaijani Constitution. In this regard, even if Ibrahimbeyov submits his documents to CEC, his candidacy can not be registered and signature sheets can not be given till he renounces citizenship of the other country.”

According to YAP official, in fact, Ibrahimbeyov is not a candidate of the National Council: “They are going to give false information, because Ibrahimbeyov is a candidate of the Initiative group – nominated by a group of people, not a candidate of the National Council. Actually, the National Council has no right to put forward a candidate. The National Council is unregistered NGO. Such a NGO can not put forward a candidate. According to the electoral legislation, a candidate can be nominated by any political party or on his own initiative.”

Novruzov touched upon the views that acceleration of Rustam Ibrahimbeyov’s renunciation of Russian citizenship depends on the result of President Putin’s Baku visit: ‘All these are disinformation aiming to increase the value of Ibrahimbeyov and 5-10 persons surrounding him. Because within the framework of this visit a number of documents will be signed between the two states, more important negotiations will be held, interstate relations focused on. And among all this, Rustam Ibrahimbeyov’s case is so small that it can be solved through simple migration service. The reports about possible discussion of his case between the two presidents are ridiculous. This issue has nothing to do with the agenda of the presidents’ meeting’.

Party’s functionary also spoke about various views on Putin’s visit to Azerbaijan after so long period – before the presidential elections: ‘Putin’s visit has nothing in common with the upcoming elections. He has been elected newly and pays relevant visits in this regard. One of such visits is being paid to Azerbaijan’.
