Russia has condemned the issuance of a US arrest warrant for former Cuban President Raul Castro, APA's Moscow bureau reports, citing a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
"The bringing of a groundless, fabricated accusation more than 30 years later is nothing more than an act of revenge by the anti-Cuban lobby in Miami and an attempt to settle scores with Raul Castro, who celebrated his 95th birthday in June," the statement said.
The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that further escalation of tensions in Cuba, which is already experiencing difficulties due to the American embargo, could lead to social unrest on the island, mass migration of Cubans to countries in the region, and the risk of crises in those countries.
It should be noted that Castro is accused of four counts of murder, the destruction of two aircraft, and conspiracy to kill US citizens. These charges may be related to a 1996 incident in which the Cuban Air Force shot down two aircraft belonging to a Miami-based exile organization.
