Russian President spokesman comments on Rustam Ibrahimbeyov’s application regarding renunciation of citizenship  - <span style="color: red;">EXCLUSIVE

Moscow. Farid Akberov – APA. “The procedure to renounce citizenship of the Russian Federation depends on the applicant’s place of residence,” said spokesman for the Russian President Dmitry Peskov in his exclusive interview with APA while commenting on Rustam Ibrahimbeyov’s application regarding renunciation of Russian citizenship.

According to Peskov, if a person, who wants to renounce citizenship, lives in Russia, this procedure is carried out basing on written application: “The person’s application and the package of necessary documents are agreed at the Federal Migration Service of Russia and then submitted to the Commission for Citizenship Issues under the Russian President. Russia’s President signs a relevant decree after the issue is solved positively. The application is considered within a year.”

Peskov said that if a person lives abroad, the procedure for renunciation of citizenship is carried out in simplified manner: “The application along with required documents is submitted to the diplomatic or consulate offices of Russia abroad. The application is considered within 6 months. The procedure of renunciation of citizenship is considered completed after the person is given by the diplomatic or consulate offices the document on renunciation of citizenship of the Russian Federation.

The renunciation of citizenship is not allowed: if a person has an unfulfilled obligation before the Russian Federation; is named in any criminal case or court judgment on him/her has come into force; if a citizen does not have any other citizenship nor has guarantee to acquire it.
