Baku-APA. At least 11 people were killed and more than 30 injured Wednesday in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a truck in Peru's northern Cajamarca de Jaen region, Highway Police (Polcar) reported, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The accident took place along a stretch of the Fernando Belaunde Terry Highway, near the district of Pucara in Cajamarca, when the bus driver rounded a curve at high speed that he lost control of the vehicle and veered into the opposite lane, colliding straight into the truck, according to the Polcar preliminary report.

Both vehicles were totally destroyed by the force of the impact, which left many of the victims' bodies beyond recognition.

Police and firefighters also struggled to free the bodies from the wreckage and attend to the injured.

Polcar said most of those injured in the early-morning crash were taken to Jaen's General Hospital and Essalud Hospital, while those with more serious injuries were taken to the larger northern city of Chiclayo.
