Department Chief of Presidential Administration: â€œWe canâ€™t imagine the Azerbaijani state without free societyâ€

Ramil Mammadli – APA. “Political parties take an active part in all the processes occurring in the internal life of Azerbaijan,” said chief of Socio-Political Department of Presidential Administration Ali Hasanov delivering a speech at the specialized courses on election law for the chairpersons of Constituency Election Commissions, APA reports.

Touching on the results of the recent parliamentary elections, Hasanov said that 72 parliamentarians represent the ruling New Azerbaijan Party, 3 Civil Solidarity Party, 2 Motherland Party, one from each of Justice, Social Welfare, Citizens' Solidarity, Democratic Reforms, Hope, Independence, Whole Azerbaijan Popular Front Parties at the Azerbaijani Parliament. There are 42 nonpartisan parliamentarians: “Political parties are the basis of state and governance in democratic societies. We can’t imagine the Azerbaijani state without free society. Today the matter is not the involvement of non-governmental organizations in the management system. Public organizations, the Union of Composers, Writers’ Union, Artists' Union and other social organizations functioned in the Soviet era. They are still functioning. However, functions of public institutions, non-governmental organizations have changed today. Now these institutions freely put forward civil initiatives."

Hasanov spoke about the opportunities provided by the government for NGOs. He said that Council of State Support to NGOs under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan finances projects and programs of non-governmental organizations at the expense of the funds allocated from the state budget.

The official said that social organizations of other nations - Talysh, Lezghins, Kurds, Avars and other ethnic groups are functioning in Azerbaijan.

He also noted that public organizations of different religions freely function in Azerbaijan: “In a word, public organizations, non-governmental organizations participate in public life as well as government agencies and political parties. They also form the basis of the democratic society.”
