CEC confirms Igbal Aghazadeh’s candidacy in presidential elections

APA reports that the meeting’s protocol dated August 12, 2013 was confirmed.

Following this, the confirmation of the candidacy of Igbal Fehruz Aghazadeh nominated by Umid Party was considered. CEC secretary Arifa Mukhtarova said the documents received by CEC on confirmation of Aghazadeh’s candidacy were examined and determined its legal basis.

Later, CEC confirmed Aghazadeh’s candidacy in the upcoming presidential elections through open voting.

The registration of authorized representatives of Umid Party was considered and relevant decisions were passed.

CEC secretaries Arifa Mukhtarova, Mikayil Rahimov and CEC member Shaitdin Aliyev were informed about the amendments made to constituent commissions.

During the discussion of the current issues, CEC chairman Mazahir Panahov said that the commission received appeals on the registration of 9 persons, who are going to run for presidency.

Nine candidates have submitted necessary documents to the CEC to participate in the upcoming presidential elections. They are: “Chairman of New Azerbaijan Party, President Ilham Aliyev, Chairman of Freedom party Ahmad Oruj, Citizens and Development Party chairman Ali Aliyev, Liberal Democratic Party of Azerbaijan chairman Fuad Aliyev, chairman of Azerbaijan Social Democratic Party Araz Alizadeh, chairman of Whole Azerbaijan Popular Front Party Gudrat Hasanguliyev, Umid party chairman Iqbal Aghazade, lawyer Ilgar Mammadov (Altay), chairman of Modern Musavat Party Hafiz Hajiyev.”

The Central Election Commission passed a decision to hold presidential elections on October 9.

Presidential elections are held in Azerbaijan every 5 years. The previous elections were held on October 15, 2008.
