Azerbaijan downsizes Prosecutor General’s powers

Azerbaijani Parliament told APA that the draft was recommended by the Constitutional Court.

According to the amendment proposed to article #32.5 of the law, Prosecutor General’s powers are being downsized. According to the draft law, Prosecutor General of the Republic of Azerbaijan will no more be engaged in the process of including term of office of employees recruited by the prosecuting authorities from court, justice or other law enforcement agencies that were engaged in coordination of the activities of law enforcement agencies, legislative and organizational arrangements into the office term in the prosecuting authorities.

The draft has already been recommended to the plenary session of the parliament, but the date of discussions is still unknown. According to the law in force, while employees of the prosecuting authorities are recruited by court, justice or other law enforcement agencies, their terms of office in these authorities are included in the term in the new ones. Terms of office of employees of aforementioned bodies, as well as those agencies engaged in coordination of the activities of law enforcement agencies, legislative and organizational arrangements are included in office terms in prosecuting authorities General Prosecutor of the Republic of Azerbaijan, when they are recruited by the Prosecutor’s Office.”
