Azerbaijan’s Central Election Commission confirms Ilham Aliyev’s candidacy for presidency

Heydar Aliyev’s candidacy has been officially confirmed through voting at the meeting chaired by Mezahir Penahov.

 

Six candidates have submitted necessary documents to the CEC to participate in the upcoming presidential elections. They are: ‘Chairman of New Azerbaijan Party, President Ilham Aliyev, Chairman of Freedom party Ahmad Oruj, Citizens and Development Party chairman Ali Aliyev, Liberal Democratic Party of Azerbaijan chairman Fuad Aliyev, Umid party chairman Iqbal Aghazade and lawyer Ilgar Mammadov (Altay)’.

 

The presidential nomination process has started in Azerbaijan. According to the Election Code, Azerbaijani citizens who have active (passive) right of election, an initiative group of electors, political parties and blocks of political parties have the right to nominate candidates.

 

The Central Election Commission passed a decision to hold presidential elections on October 9.

 

Presidential elections are held in Azerbaijan in every 5 years. The previous elections were held on October 15, 2008.
