Azerbaijan President attends Novruz Holiday celebration

He addressed the people gathered near Gosha Gala in the ancient part of Baku, speaking of the country s achievements and progress.

He said Azerbaijan maintained and will continue to keep up its leading position over the past five years in terms of dynamic economic growth

According to him, the State Programme for Socioeconomic Development of the Regions was successfully implemented and a new programme for next years will soon be approved.

Pointing out that the poverty plunged to 13% from 49%, he added all countries were affected by the global financial crisis but Azerbaijan managed to keep the national currency stable.

In his words, major investment projects and social programmes will not be paused in the country.

He mentioned that all possibilities were being used of to settle the Nagorno Karabakh conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia in the just manner and on the basis of rules of international law.

He said the country s economic and military capabilities are growing as well and last year s military parade demonstrated the military capacity of the country.

He said Wednesday s referendum was supported by the people and this was an indicator of democracy, and this solidarity of people gave him strength.

He pledged that political and economic reforms will be continued in the country.
