Azerbaijani President visits Shamkir

Shamkir - APA. Azerbaijanâ€™s President Ilham Aliyev visited Shamkir region, APA reports. The head of state first visited Heydar Aliyevâ€™s monument in the central park of Shamkir and put flowers before the monument. Following this, Shamkir Olympic Sport Complex was inaugurated. The President cut the red ribbon and acquainted with the complex.

The head of state met with the residents of the region and sportsmen.

The President also participated in the foundation-laying ceremony of the reservoir to be built on the Shamkir River. The head of state was informed about the irrigation scheme of the reservoir, general plan economic indicators of the dam of the reservoir.

The total capacity of the reservoir will be 160 million cu m, operating range 135 million cu m, annual average water flow will be 260 million cu m. Water surface of the reservoir will reach 504 ha, maximum depth of water will reach 122m. The length of the hydraulic structure will be 692m, width 12m. Over 21 million cu m ground works, 85,000 cu m concrete works will be done in the dam, over 7,000 metal structures and fittings will be used in the construction. Six aggregates will be installed in the hydropower station. The annual energy production of the hydropower station will be 56 million kW/h. A Turkish company will carry out the construction.

The construction of water-storage reservoir will create opportunity for the capital reconstruction and development of the melioration system in nearby regions.

President Aliyev visited the â€œSharq Ulduzuâ€ (â€œThe Eastâ€™s Starâ€) company during his visit to Shamkir. The president was informed that there is 108 ha vineyard in Shamkir planted with French, Iranian and Georgian, as well as local young plants. The local wine-makers started to grow table grapes already and they brought the young plants of various table grapes from Ordubad and Urmiya.

The enterprise established in 2006 reportedly has a 2 000-ton of output capacity producing seven wine sorts like Chardonnay, Merlot, Rkatsiteli, Saperavi, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz.

125 employees are working in the enterprise and their average monthly salary is 250-300 AZN.

President Aliyev put the new production line of the enterprise into operation.

The president visited the new recreation park outside of the Shamkir Cultural Center and saw the composition dedicated to outstanding Azerbaijani composer Uzeyir Hajibeyov and poet Ahmet Javad and the Ashug Teymourâ€™s memorial corner-piece.

The head of state visited the exhibition in the Cultural Center.
