Samad Seyidov: â€œThe Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe will not discuss an issue related to Azerbaijan in the summer sessionâ€

Baku. Ramil Mammadli â€“APA. â€œThe Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe will not discuss an issue related to Azerbaijan in the summer session in June. Preliminary debates on Azerbaijan will be held only at the Monitoring Committee meeting in Paris on June 5. PACE co-rapporteurs on Azerbaijan Andres Herkel and Eugenia Zhivkova will submit report on the results of their last visit to Azerbaijan to the Monitoring Committeeâ€, head of Azerbaijani delegation to PACE Samad Seyidov told journalists, APA reports. Seyidov said PACE would focus attention on the election of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe during the summer session on June 22-26. â€œThe candidates are in a keen struggle for this post, which is not good case for the Council of Europe. Two candidates nominated by the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers were not accepted by the Council of Europe. Removal of these candidates from the common list created a problem in the Council. The Council of Europe, which is always advocating for the democracy and alternatives, faces with a problem because it doesnâ€™t seriously analyze the problems, and array of problems collected for long years now shows itselfâ€.

Seyidov criticized some points in the Councilâ€™s activity. â€œPACE considers hearing of the report on Armenia in the summer session, but I donâ€™t expect that there will be a serious decision on this report. We have already seen the Council of Europeâ€™s policy toward this. Discussions on the anti-democratic cases in Armenia didnâ€™t cause positive changes in this country. Armenia refuses to fulfill the documents adopted by the Council of Europe and even doesnâ€™t think to do thatâ€.
