Azerbaijan-Council of Europe cultural cooperation: opportunities and prospects

Ulkar Gasimova â€“ APA. â€œAzerbaijan-Council of Europe cultural cooperation: opportunities and prospectsâ€, an event dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the council of Europe took place in Baku. Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfas Garayev called the marking of 60th anniversary of the Council of Europe in Azerbaijan as an important event. â€œThe Council of Europe played an important role in the creation of large European family over the sixty years of its activity. Azerbaijan is a member of the Council of Europe for eight years and there were many joint projects carried out over these years. Last year Azerbaijan hosted the ministers of culture of the Council of Europe member countries and for the first time the ministers of culture of the Islamic countries also joined this meeting. We are interested to develop the Baku process. The dialogue will be continued within the framework of the year of Baku Islamic Culture Capital.

Special representative of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Veronika Kotek spoke about the achievements of the Council of Europe over the past 60 years.

Director of the Council of Europe Department for Cultural and Natural Heritage Robert Palmer said Azerbaijan supported all projects carried out by the Council of Europe.

Foreign diplomats, representatives of the international organizations, government institutions and civil society attended the conference. The first expert meeting on the project â€œArtists for Dialogueâ€ started in the second half of the year. The project was founded on the Azerbaijanâ€™s initiative at the conference of the minister of culture of the Council of Europe member countries in Baku on December 2-3, 2009. It aims to popularize the cross-culture and cross-civilizations dialogues by the artists of the European and neighbor countries and to carry out various projects in this field.
