US Brian Horton Quartet starts its tour in Baku – <font color=red>PHOTOSESSION </font>

Baku. Ulkar Gasimova – APA. The Brian Horton Quartet of the United States has started its tour in Baku. The quartet members held a press conference on Monday, APA reports. US Embassy’s culture counselor Dmitriy Tarakhovski announced the goal of the quartet’s visit. He said the group would perform a series of concerts and workshops in Baku on June 8-10 sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in Azerbaijan. The Quartet will perform a concert on Monday at the Philharmonic Hall with only limited number of seats available for sale at the box office. The American jazz ambassadors will also give two free public concerts in Baku: June 9 at the Jazz Center and June 10 at the Rotunda Landmark Concert Hall. The quartet members Brian Horton, Jameo Braun, Ameen Saleem and Ernest Turner also attended the press conference. The quartet said they were pleased with their visit to Azerbaijan. The quartet’s founder Brian Horton said they aimed to win the hearts of Azerbaijani audience. The quartet has little information about the Azerbaijani jazz, but said they knew well Azerbaijani jazzman Vagif Mustafazadeh’s works. Jameo Braun spoke about their plans to include Mustafazadeh’s pieces in their repertoire. The quartet was founded almost ten years ago and performed concert programs in various places of the world. Additionally, The Brian Horton Quartet will conduct workshops and master classes for music students at the Jazz Center and the BulBul School of Music. Horton said they loved Baku despite that it was their first visit. They will leave Azerbaijan for Uzbekistan. According to the embassy official, the Brian Horton Quartet is brought to Azerbaijan through The Rhythm Road: American Music Abroad Program, co-produced by Jazz at Lincoln Center, the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, and the U.S. Embassy in Azerbaijan. Under the program, 10 ensembles are touring Asia, Africa, the Balkans, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East. The Rhythm Road project was formed in 2005 to promote mutual respect and understanding between the United States and countries visited by American musicians.
