The Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Simon Stiell, has expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan, APA’s Türkiye bureau reports.
Speaking at a press conference held in Istanbul as part of preparations for COP31, Stiell thanked Brazil, which is chairing COP30, and Azerbaijan, which chaired COP29.
He also emphasized that COP31, to be held in Antalya, will be productive:
“I would like to thank Brazil, which is currently chairing COP30, and Azerbaijan, which chaired COP29. It is clear that COP31, to be held in Antalya, will take place at an extraordinary time. We are living in a new environment of global disorder. This is a period of instability and mistrust. It is a time marked by shows of force and trade wars. The very concept of international cooperation is under direct attack. However, climate action can bring stability to an unstable world,” Simon Stiell said.
