The opening day of the Baku Climate Action Week has ended, APA-Economics reports.
Against the backdrop of the country's historic achievement of the Baku Financial Goal and the adoption of ambitious decisions in the field of carbon markets within the framework of COP29, the Baku Climate Action Week provides an opportunity for government and company officials, as well as youth and civil society representatives, to come together and turn these achievements into practical action.
According to the information, the climate week, held in partnership with "SOCAR Green", Nizami Ganjavi International Center, "Kristal", the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Non-Aligned Movement Youth Organization, "Regional Development" Public Union, "Rotas Consulting" and "ANEWZ" Television Channel, makes a significant contribution to the global dialogue on sustainable development.
Note that during the week, Azerbaijani climate leaders, including COP29 President Mukhtar Babayev, Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov, and heads of other institutions, will present the country’s national priorities for climate resilience in the renewable energy, “green” finance, agriculture, and water sectors. At COP29, UN High-Level Champion for Climate Change Nigar Arpadarai will lead discussions on the mobilization of non-state actors, global climate action, private sector and civil society participation in the COP process, SMEs, green skills development, and other topics. Also, taking into account the interest of young people in the climate issue, COP29 Youth Champion Leyla Hasanova will present a special program for the active participation of young people in the Baku Climate Action Week.
An online address by international experts, including UNFCCC Secretary-General Simon Stiell, COP30 President André Correa do Lago, former President of the UN General Assembly Čaba Köröši, former President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis, and UN Special Envoy for Finance Dr. Mahmud Mohieldi, will highlight the role of global cooperation in promoting the COP29 legacy.
