The European Parliament believes that the Baku Call for Climate Action for Peace, Relief, and Recovery (Baku Call), adopted within the framework of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which Azerbaijan successfully hosted, represents an important milestone in advancing the global agenda on climate action, peace, and security, APA reports.

The special resolution adopted by the Parliament regarding the COP30 Conference to be held in Belem, Brazil, states that “the growing focus on the climate, peace, and security agenda has been reflected in COP conferences, particularly demonstrated through the adoption of the ‘Baku Call for Climate Action for Peace, Relief, and Recovery’ during COP29.”

This assessment by the European Parliament once again reaffirms the growing significance of the Baku Call as an important international initiative that unites global efforts to address the interlinkages between climate change, conflict prevention, humanitarian assistance, peace, and post-conflict recovery processes.

At the same time, this recognition serves as clear evidence of Azerbaijan’s leading role in global climate diplomacy and its significant contribution to promoting peace and sustainable development through international climate action.

Presented at the initiative of Azerbaijan within the framework of COP29, the Baku Call brought together more than 50 countries and international organizations, institutions engaged in climate and development finance, as well as over 300 civil society institutions and academic entities, outlining joint commitments aimed at promoting resilience, peace, and climate justice, particularly in the least developed and small island states.

In addition, the high-level events organized by Azerbaijan during its COP29 Presidency on prestigious platforms such as the UN General Assembly, and the establishment of the Baku Center for Climate and Peace Action based on the Baku Call, demonstrate that the Center serves as a guiding framework mechanism for strengthening multilateral cooperation in the fields of climate action and peace, as well as supporting countries affected by the impacts of climate change and conflicts.

Within the framework of Azerbaijan's participation at COP30, to be held this November in Belem, Brazil, the Baku Center will organize the Annual High-Level Dialogue. The event, bringing together government officials from leading climate diplomacy nations, representatives of international organizations, and expert institutions, is expected to launch concrete actions derived from the goals set forth in the Baku Call.
