COP29 ended successfully, assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan - head of the Department of Foreign Policy Affairs of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Hikmat Hajiyev wrote on his X accaunt, APA reports.
Mr Hajiyev noted that the determination of a new financial target was among the important achievements and left a mark in the history of global climate action as the "Baku Leap": "However, in the most critical and difficult moments of the negotiations, developing countries and the Global South European Union, in general, it was unacceptable for German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock to make accusations against Azerbaijan at a time when she was expecting concrete financial obligations from the West. Unfortunately, Ms. Berbock has combined the upcoming German elections with multilateral diplomacy, possibly attempting to use COP29 as a platform for her election campaign.
She also had to consider that these difficult negotiations took place without the participation of the German chancellor and the European Commission at a time when Europe was unable to show leadership and the world was deeply geopolitically polarized. However, we welcome the professional input and cooperation of the German and European Union climate negotiating teams.
The world is a witness that Azerbaijan, as the host and Presidency of COP29, has acted as an honest mediator to achieve results."
