As part of its cooperation with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Azerbaijan will host World Environment Day (WED) on the theme “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future” in Baku on June 5 this year, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources told APA.
Azerbaijan took over the World Environment Day baton during the event hosted in the Republic of Korea in 2024.
Established by the UN General Assembly in 1972, World Environment Day is a global platform in the field of environmental protection that brings together millions of people.
Azerbaijan continues its efforts to expand protected natural areas, preserve biodiversity, restore ecosystems, and combat climate change. As a party to the Paris Agreement, the country has also committed to reducing emissions, actively expanding the renewable energy sector.
Building on the momentum created by hosting COP29, Azerbaijan aims through the event to further strengthen international cooperation and to translate environmental commitments into practical action.
Azerbaijan, jointly with the UNEP call on all parties to join the World Environment Day and to come together for the protection of the environment.
