The Department of Astrophysics of Baku State University (BSU) has announced the dates and times when the seasons will begin in Azerbaijan in 2026, APA reports.

The spring season begins in Azerbaijan on March 20 at 18:45:53 Baku time

The spring season will begin in Azerbaijan on March 20 at 18:45:53 Baku time. At this moment, day and night are equal, and the Sun rises exactly in the east and sets in the west. As the Sun moves along the ecliptic, it crosses the celestial equator, transitioning from the Southern Hemisphere to the Northern Hemisphere. From that moment, spring begins in the Northern Hemisphere and autumn begins in the Southern Hemisphere. The duration of spring will be 92 days, 17 hours, 38 minutes, and 28 seconds.

The summer season (Summer Solstice) will begin in Azerbaijan on June 21 at 12:24:26 Baku time. At this time, astronomical summer begins in the Northern Hemisphere and winter begins in the Southern Hemisphere. During this event, the smallest angle forms between the Earth's axis of rotation and the direction of the Sun. As a result, the Sun reaches its highest point in the sky. In Baku, the Sun will reach its maximum altitude above the horizon (73.1°) at noon on that day. It is also the day with the longest daylight and the shortest night of the year. The daylight duration will be 15 hours 03 minutes 24 seconds, and the night will last 8 hours 56 minutes 36 seconds. The summer season will last 93 days, 15 hours, 40 minutes, and 42 seconds.

September 23 will be the equinox

The autumn season will begin in Azerbaijan on September 23 at 04:05:08 Baku time. At this moment, day and night again become equal, and the Sun rises exactly in the east and sets in the west. Moving along the ecliptic, the Sun crosses the celestial equator from the Northern Hemisphere to the Southern Hemisphere. From that moment, autumn begins in the Northern Hemisphere and spring begins in the Southern Hemisphere. The duration of autumn will be 89 days, 21 hours, 45 minutes, and 01 second.

Winter will enter Azerbaijan on December 22 at 00:50:09 Baku time

In 2026, the winter season will begin in Azerbaijan on December 22 at 00:50:09 Baku time. At this moment, winter begins in the Northern Hemisphere and summer begins in the Southern Hemisphere. The Earth's rotation axis forms the largest angle with the direction of the Sun, and the Sun reaches its lowest noontime altitude above the horizon (26.2°). This will be the day with the shortest daylight and the longest night of the year. Daylight will last 9 hours 17 minutes 22 seconds, and night will last 14 hours 42 minutes 38 seconds. The winter season will last 88 days, 23 hours, 34 minutes, and 27 seconds.
