Information on the participation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) delegation in COP30 has been announced.
According to a report from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to APA , the 30th Session of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP30) was held in Belem, Brazil, on November 10-22, and the Leaders' Summit of the Session was held on November 6-7.
The Republic of Azerbaijan was represented at the Leaders' Summit by a delegation led by the Speaker of the Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova. The Speaker of the Milli Majlis made a statement on behalf of the Republic of Azerbaijan and held bilateral meetings with leaders of a number of countries.
On the official opening day of COP30, the COP presidency was transferred from the Republic of Azerbaijan to Brazil. COP29 Chairman, Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Climate Issues Mukhtar Babayev, speaking at the opening session of COP30, reported on the historic results achieved within the framework of COP29 held in Baku last year, as well as the activities carried out by our country during its presidency of the COP. M. Babayev also participated and spoke at a number of events organized within the framework of COP30 as the Chairman of COP29, and held bilateral meetings with the heads of other delegations.
The delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) also participated in both segments of COP30. Within the framework of the conference, the MFA delegation was involved in the negotiations aimed at adopting the decisions planned to be adopted at the end of the Conference, and Azerbaijan was entrusted with conducting negotiations on 2 important decisions and agreeing on these documents.
Within the framework of the authority to conduct negotiations between Turkey and Australia, candidate countries for hosting COP31, given by COP30 President Andre do Lago to Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Yalçın Rafiyev and Brazilian Deputy Foreign Minister Mauricio Lyrio, after intensive negotiations held over 12 days, a decision was made to award the hosting of COP31 to Türkiye.
In addition, within the framework of COP30, the COP President gave a mandate to the representatives of Azerbaijan and Norway to lead the process of agreeing on documents related to the Global Stocktake (GST) of the Paris Agreement on his behalf and to conduct negotiations between the states. These negotiations were led by Deputy Foreign Minister Yalchin Rafiyev from the Azerbaijani side, and by Minister of Climate and Environment Andreas Bjelland Eriksen from the Norwegian side.
As a result of discussions with all negotiating groups, the Azerbaijani and Norwegian sides submitted their recommendations on possible draft decisions to the Brazilian Presidency of COP31, and these discussions contributed to the adoption of decisions on the relevant documents.
The MFA delegation also held five events on initiatives put forward under the COP29 Presidential Agenda on peace and migration, water, health, cities and climate transparency. In addition, the Azerbaijani delegation co-hosted several events on renewable energy, hydrogen and agriculture initiatives.
In addition, in accordance with the Baku Financial Target decision adopted within the framework of COP29, Azerbaijan and Brazil have prepared and presented within the framework of COP30 a "Roadmap from Baku to Belém" to increase global climate finance to 1.3 trillion US dollars.
