Lukashenka has ordered his government to switch to U.S. dollars and euros in trading with Russia because of the slump in the value of Russia's currency ruble , local media reported on Thursday.
The Belarusian president stressed that Belarus should have long ago demanded Russia to pay it in U.S. dollars and euros only. "The ice has been broken, and the buyers of our products in Russia are paying in U.S. dollars today, and if in rubles, then in keeping with the exchange rate as of the current day and the current hour, " he said.
Lukashenko also said Belarus would not devalue its own currency over the weakness of the Russian ruble. Almost half of Belarusian exports go to Russia, and a majority of transactions are currently carried out in rubles.
