"The Middle Corridor could become an economic development belt," Deputy Chairman of Türkiye's Justice and Development Party (AK Party) and Ankara MP Kürşad Zorlu said at the 2nd International Conference of Leading National Think Tanks of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) held in Baku, APA-Economics reports.
He noted that the Middle Corridor should not be regarded merely as an alternative transport route stretching from China to Europe.
"The Middle Corridor is not just a railway line and a logistics route. With the right policies, this corridor could become an economic development belt," Zorlu emphasized.
According to him, a safe and sustainable transport connection between East and West is being established through the Caspian crossing, while stronger integration of the Turkic world into the global economy is also being ensured.
Zorlu stated that harmonizing logistics infrastructure, simplifying customs procedures and expanding single-window systems are of great importance for the development of the Middle Corridor.
He noted that, according to World Bank analyses, trade volumes along the Middle Corridor could increase up to threefold over the next 30 years if the necessary infrastructure investments, digital solutions and logistics coordination are ensured.
Kürşad Zorlu said that, based on these forecasts, trade between Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Georgia could increase by 37%, while trade between these countries and the European Union could rise by 78%.
He added that the Middle Corridor, stretching from Baku to Aktau and from Kazakhstan to Türkiye, should become not merely a route for transporting goods but an economic space where investment, production and technology are concentrated.
