A proposal has been made to remove the statue of Tsar Peter the Great from Moscow, APA's Russia correspondent reports.
Dmitry Pavlov, leader of the "New People" faction in the Saint Petersburg Legislative Assembly (Zaksobraniye), has put forward such a proposal.
He suggested relocating the statue of Peter the Great from Moscow to Saint Petersburg, arguing that the rightful place for the monument is in Peter's city. "One possible option is to place the hundred-meter statue along the shores of the Gulf of Finland, where the tsar could greet the ships arriving in our city," he said.
Note that many Muscovites do not approve of the statue, which was created 30 years ago by sculptor Zurab Tsereteli. They believe the statue detracts from the center of Moscow and is incompatible with the city's historic architecture.
