The director of the FSB of Russia, Alexander Bortnikov, expressed the opinion that the change of the president in the United States to Donald Trump is unlikely to lead to serious changes in Washington's foreign policy, APA reports citing Pravda.
At the same time, he stressed that the team of the current president Joe Biden can ensure an aggravation of the international situation.
During his speech at the XX session of the Meeting of Heads of Security Agencies and Intelligence Services of the CIS countries in Moscow, Bortnikov pointed out that the likelihood of a radical transformation of US foreign policy with the arrival of a new president is quite small. He also noted that the outgoing Biden administration may try to increase tensions in strategically important regions for the United States, such as the post-Soviet space, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia.
According to Bortnikov, the main purpose of these actions is to create difficulties for the new administration, particularly in solving existing problems. He added that the first step had already been taken, mentioning Kyiv's permission to carry out long-range missile strikes on Russian territory, which, in his opinion, would inevitably lead to further deterioration of the situation in Ukraine.
