Georgia publicizes death toll during military operations

The minister did not say whether they were civilians, or servicemen. Georgian officials had before said 55 were killed, 15 of them were civilians.

Kvitashvili said it was yet impossible to determine the exact number of the dead and wounded, because Georgia failed to enter Georgian villages in Tskhinvali region. The villages were under the control of Russia.

Russia and separatists of South Ossetia had before said that 1600 Ossetian civilians and 15-18 Russian peacekeepers had been killed during Georgian servicemenâ€™s attack on Tskhinvali and the battles for Ossetian villages.
At the rally held in Tbilisi on August 12, Georgian president Mikhail saakashvili said Georgian army had killed about 400 Russian servicemen. The president also underlined that he personally observed how Russian artillery destroyed Tskhinvali.
