Valiyeva said they were in basement, had no light or drinkable water and were sometimes allowed to leave the basement to phone their relatives in Russia. She said there were a lot of women and children in the basement of the five-storey building. Tskhinvali resident said all the houses had been destroyed. Valiyeva also underlined that last night was calmer than the previous days.

Meanwhile, the representatives of European Union, US, OSCE and NATO arrived in Georgia to achieve ceasing of the military operations.

Russia laid down two conditions when Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili appealed for ceasing the fire. Saakashvili appealed to Russian president Dmitry Medvedev saying he wanted to stop this. Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Grigori Karasin said Russia had two conditions.

“Georgian president’s proposal is fully logical. But they should fulfill two conditions: first, Georgia should withdraw its Armed Forces from the conflict zone, second, sign an agreement with South Ossetia on not using force. We can speak about the further processes only after that,” Russian official underlined.
