Baku-APA. A Russian official says his country has planned to normalize relations with the new Georgian authorities, days after Georgian Dream party won a majority of the parliament seats in Georgia’s elections, APA reports quoting Press TV.

"Judging from some signals, the thoughts about normalization of relations, about what Tbilisi must do for it, have already started," Reuters quoted Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and Secretary of State Grigory Karasin as saying on Friday.

"I would call this premature. We should understand first, what is the real intention of our Georgian partners? We will determine our position after that,” the diplomat added.

Relations between Moscow and Tbilisi soured after a five-day war between the two countries back in 2008.

On October 1, Georgian Dream party won a majority of votes in Georgia’s seventh legislative elections since the country gained independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.

Hours after the elections, Bidzina Ivanishvili , the leader of the party said normalizing ties with Russia would be a priority for his government.

Last week, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev also welcomed the Georgian Dream victory as opening the way for “more constructive and responsible forces” to enter the Georgian parliament.

He added Moscow was "ready for dialogue about the future of Russian-Georgian relations."
