APA reports quoting the Armenian press that this information was given by seismologist Vladimir Balasanyan at the press conference held on August 15 in Yerevan.

Comparing the seismological activity of 1980s with the recent years in South Caucasus, seismologist said that powerful earthquake shocks were recorded in Georgia and Iran after Spinak quake: “Currently, a new seismic focus appeared in the zone between Iran, Azerbaijan and Turkey. No one can say that whether this process will end by this or will continue”.

“If epicenter falls on the one third of Armenian population leaving in the capital and the 4th quake occurs, 80% of housing facilities of Yerevan will be destroyed. It will result in national natural disaster”, stressed the seismologist.

According to V.Balasanyan, the 70-80% of housing facilities in Yerevan city was constructed in USSR time and they are already out-of-date. These housing facilities can sustain only 7-magnitudes quakes.
