Baku-APA. Uzbekistan is moving to ban foreign military bases on its territory, local authorities said Tuesday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The ban is part of a major foreign-policy document proposed by Uzbek President Islam Karimov. The document, which has been adopted by the lower house, "allows no deployment of foreign military bases or other facilities on the territory," said an official in charge of press with the Senate of Uzbekistan.

The Senate is expected to pass the document at a plenary meeting scheduled for Aug.30-31. The document, which also declares that Uzbekistan would not take part in any military and political blocs, will become a law after President Karimov signs it, according to the official.

In June, Uzbekistan suspended its membership of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), an intergovernmental military alliance in the Commonwealth of the Independent States.
