Police Officer Killed in Dagestan Attack

Baku-APA. A police officer has been killed in an attack by unknown assailants in the Russian North Caucasus republic of Dagestan, a law enforcement spokesman said, APA reports quoting RIA Novosti.
“Law enforcement officers, carrying out manhunt activities, discovered two suspicious Lada cars. People inside the cars opened fire on the police officers,†the spokesman said, adding that the attack occurred late on Tuesday.
“As a result, one policeman was wounded and later died in a hospital,†he said.
Dagestan’s interior ministry confirmed the report, saying an investigation was underway.
More that a decade after the end of a federal war against separatists in the Russian North Caucasus republic of Chechnya, Russian security forces continue to fight militants in other regions in the area, including Dagestan, where attacks on security forces, police and civilians are frequent.
