Baku-APA. Kyrgyz Attorney General Aida Salyanova has filed a criminal case against Nariman Tyuleev, former mayor of Bishkek and now member of Parliament, for corruption, Kyrgyz Prosecutor General’s Office said Saturday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

According to the press service of Prosecutor General’s Office, the criminal case is based on illegal doings of Tyuleev and other persons in the procurement of buses for the city of Bishkek in 2008, as well as the issue of registered municipal bonds for 200 million soms (0.42 million US dollars) in the same year.

Officials in Bishkek Mayor’s Office and the municipal enterprise for public transport allegedly abused the city’s budget on a large scale by purchasing buses at an inflated price, as well as involving themselves in unwarranted contract for bus delivery to the border of Kyrgyzstan in the amount of 1.4 million U.S. dollars.

On Thursday, Tyuleev was led to the building of the main oversight agency for investigation, but was later taken away by 12 members of parliament (MPs), citing immunity.

In Kyrgyzstan, MPs are entitled to immunity. However, as the Attorney General noted, under the Constitution, the immunity does not extend to cases of serious crime .

The case is currently under investigation.
