Baku-APA. At least four people were killed and 26 injured on Friday when a mortar shell struck near time- honored Umayyad Mosque in the Syrian capital of Damascus, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
The mortar shell struck near the mosque in Hamidieh Marketplace in the old quarters of Damascus, said the report, giving no further details.
The assault is the latest in a series of mortar attacks that rained down in Damascus on a daily basis.
These mortars, launched from rebel-held areas surrounding Damascus, mostly fell in Christian-dominated districts in eastern and southern Damascus, also close to the old quarters of the city.
