Baku-APA. The casualties in a car bomb explosion in Bir El Abd neighborhood in the southern suburbs of Beirut on Thursday rose to six killed at least and more than 70 injured, the health ministry said, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
The Lebanese army said in a statement that the car bomb detonated at about 4:10 p.m. local time (1210 GMT) in Haret al- Harayk's Areed Street.
The statement added that the explosion was caused by a 20-km bomb placed within a SUV.
"Investigations are underway to find out the method of detonation," the army said.
The state-run National News Agency reported that the explosion caused massive material damage in the area, especially to the building that houses the Al-Jawwad Restaurant.
Lebanon's caretaker Health Minister Ali Khalil asked all Beirut hospitals to treat the injured on the expenses of the ministry.
