Baku-APA. The Belarusian Foreign Ministry confirmed Tuesday that one Belarusian national was killed and another wounded in an armed attack in Yemen, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
"We confirm that Belarusian citizens came under armed attack in Yemen. They had been working in Yemen on an official contract," Foreign Ministry spokesman Andrei Savinykh told local media.
Initial reports said they were Russian, but the Russian Embassy said the victims were in fact Belarusians who had been working in Yemen on private contracts.
According to the Russian Embassy, Russia's military cooperation with Yemen had been suspended, and that there were no Russian instructors in the country.
Yemeni Interior Ministry spokesman Mohammed al-Maori said that the foreigners attacked in Sanaa are military specialists working for the country's Defense Ministry.
The two Belarusians were reportedly shot in Sanaa by gunmen driving a motorbike.
