Baku-APA. At least three persons were killed as a result of clashes between supporters and opponents of the ruling Awami (People’s) League in Bangladesh on Saturday, January 4, APA reports quoting Itar-Tass.
The online version of the Indian newspaper Hindustan Times said that demonstrators had set 60 polling stations on fire on the eve of the legislative elections slated for Sunday, January 5.
Clashes occurred after the main opposition Nationalist Party’s decision to boycott the elections. Concurrently, a 48-hour strike has been started for the cancellation of the polls. Many shops are closed.
The Nationalist Party demands that the interim government that is not affiliated with any political force restore control over the elections, which was annulled by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is also the leader of the Awami League.
