Baku-APA. At least eight workers were killed and a dozen others injured, and some others remained trapped in debris of an under-construction building which collapsed Saturday afternoon in the western Indian resort state of Goa, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
The incident took place in the Canacona town of Goa when a portion of a three-story building collapsed, said Indo-Asian News Service.
Local TV reports said earlier that dozens of other people remained missing after the collapse. Rescuers were still looking for survivors in the debris.
The bodies of eight workers had been pulled out and there were more than 25 people at the site when the accident happened. The injured were sent to a public health center for treatment, said the reports.
The Indian Army has been called in for rescue operations and Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has also reached the site of the accident, said the reports.
Building collapse takes place from time to time in India due to running down conditions, congestion, over-habitation and illegal construction.
