3 policemen killed in suicide bombing in Iraq's Anbar

Baku-APA. At least three police commandos were killed and six others wounded on Thursday in a suicide car bombing in the city of Ramadi, the capital of Iraq's western province of Anbar, a province police source said, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The attack occurred in the evening when a suicide bomber blew up his explosive-laden car near a crowd of members of a Special Weapons and Tactics force in al-Soufiyah district in northern Ramadi, some 110 km west of the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, the source said.

Anbar province has been the scene of fierce clashes that flared up after Iraqi police dismantled an anti-government protest site outside Ramadi in late December last year.

Iraq is witnessing its worst violence in recent years. According to the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq, a total of 8,868 Iraqis were killed in 2013, including 7,818 civilians and civilian police personnel, which is the highest annual death toll for years.
