Baku-APA. One man died and two others were injured in a light aircraft crash on Thursday afternoon in Israel' s southern city of Eilat, an Aviation Authority source told Xinhua, APA reports.

The plane crashed between the resort city's airport and mall, and the airport has been temporarily closed.

The cause of the crash is not immediately known, but an Aviation Authority official said it is possible that the aircraft has crashed due to strong wind.

In a statement, the Aviation Authority said the plane "did not announce an emergency and was seen diving towards the ground."

Three people were on board the plane -- a pilot and two passengers, which departed from Herzelia, a city near Tel Aviv, and was about to land when it crashed.

According to Magen David Adom (Israeli Red Cross) spokesperson Zaki Heller, the man who died is in his early 50s.

The Magen David Adom paramedics evacuated two others, one moderately injured and the other severely, to the Yoseftal hospital in Eilat.

Transportation Ministry investigators are at the scene trying to examine the cause of the accident.
