US President Donald Trump said on Monday that Hamas had assisted in locating the remains of the last Israeli captive held in Gaza and urged the group to follow through on commitments to disarm, APA reports citing Axios.
Speaking to Axios, Trump said the recovery of the remains of Ran Gvili followed a “very tough” search operation amid widespread destruction in Gaza. He said Israeli teams “had to go through hundreds of bodies” to identify the remains. “It was a hard scene,” he said.
Trump credited Hamas with cooperating in the search. “They worked very hard to get the body back. They were working with Israel on it. You can imagine how hard it was,” he said, describing the effort as unusually complex given the conditions on the ground.
