The work being carried out toward Azerbaijan’s accession to the New Computerised Transit System (NCTS) has been disclosed, Chairman of the State Customs Committee, Colonel-General of the Customs Service Shahin Baghirov told journalists, APA’s local bureau reports.
According to him, all mechanisms and necessary measures are being implemented to carry out the next stage:
“First of all, the expansion and development of infrastructure must be ensured. Because issues related to roads, bridges, tunnels and other matters must be resolved. Our government is also carrying out relevant work in this direction. At the same time, the simplification of procedures is also of great importance. Along with the development of infrastructure, it is important to accelerate and more efficiently organize the procedures serving transit transportation. Our task is to further simplify these procedures and implement them on a digital basis.”
Shahin Baghirov noted that many modern tools are currently being used around the world, including in Azerbaijan’s geography and the region, at new transit crossings:
“Within the framework of the Azerbaijan-European Union partnership, as well as in cooperation with European and other regional partners, using these opportunities is of great importance to us. We have a new digital transit system. This system is used by European countries, including Türkiye and Georgia. This is a modern transit system and is fully electronic. It allows information to be processed more quickly and border crossings to be carried out promptly without the need for paper documentation.”
“Our main goal at the current stage is to complete the work related to the implementation of this new digital transit system as soon as possible. The initial negotiations and the work carried out in this direction are of great importance. Relevant work on the system is currently underway, and its integration into our information technology infrastructure must be ensured. Because, as I have already mentioned, electronic systems must be harmonized and unified in order to ensure the prompt exchange of information with Moldova, Georgia, Türkiye and other countries, as well as to obtain and process information in advance. We are continuing our work in this area and working on new systems. I believe that the work being carried out in this direction will continue successfully,” the chairman emphasized.
