The delay in Azerbaijan’s full membership in international transit conventions related to NCTS has been clarified, Chairman of the State Customs Committee, Colonel-General of the Customs Service Shahin Baghirov, told journalists, APA’s local bureau reports.
According to him, Azerbaijan has had unofficial observer status since 2017: “We are implementing this in stages. There are two main areas I mentioned regarding the transition to observer status: transit procedures and document processing. Separate documents exist for these areas, and work is underway on their harmonization and mutual recognition.”
“Work in this direction is currently ongoing. In terms of the timeframe, we believe that concrete results will be achieved in the near future. Because one of the important issues for us is ensuring information technology infrastructure. As I said, the work carried out by our state sets us the task of fully ensuring IT infrastructure, digital capabilities and digital solutions in general. We are also carrying out very important work in this area and continuing our activities,” Shahin Baghirov noted.
