Israel has revoked the diplomatic status of Dutch representatives working in Ramallah, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar wrote on X, APA reports.
According to the minister, the move was taken in response to the Netherlands’ ban on the import of products originating from Israeli settlements in the West Bank.
Saar said the Dutch Embassy in Israel had been informed that Dutch diplomats working in Ramallah must return diplomatic documents issued by Israel within seven days.
“After this period, the diplomatic privileges and immunities granted to them by the State of Israel will expire,” Saar said.
He noted that the decision followed the entry into force last week of a Dutch ban on the import and sale of products from what Israel refers to as Judea and Samaria, as well as East Jerusalem and the Golan Heights.
Saar added that if the Netherlands wishes to continue representing its interests in relations with the Palestinian side, it could do so from territory administered by the Palestinian Authority rather than from Israel.
“Israel will not leave unanswered measures aimed at harming it,” Saar said, adding that countries taking what he described as “hostile and unilateral” steps against Israel would lose influence and relevance in the region.
