The European Union’s Aspides naval mission, which is being carried out to ensure the security of commercial vessels in the Red Sea, is in serious need of warships, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas told journalists on her way to a meeting of EU defense ministers on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, APA reports.
According to her, the EU receives numerous requests to escort commercial vessels in the Red Sea. However, this requires the deployment of more warships.
“The European Union has Operation Aspides in the Red Sea, but it urgently needs more warships than it currently has,” Kallas said.
