The 5th meeting of the Trilateral Committee on Customs Issues between the governments of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Georgia, and the Republic of Türkiye has concluded in the Goygol district, APA’s local bureau reports.
The meeting, attended by delegations led by Chairman of the State Customs Committee, Colonel-General of the Customs Service Shahin Baghirov, Türkiye’s Deputy Minister of Trade Sezai Ucarmak, and Head of the Georgian Revenue Service and Deputy Minister of Finance Mamuka Baratashvili, extensively discussed the current state and development prospects of cooperation among the customs services of the three countries.
During the meeting, the implementation status of agreements reached at previous meetings was assessed, the results of mutual cooperation were analyzed, and measures to be implemented at the next stage were determined.
The effective cooperation established among Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye in the customs sector makes an important contribution to the development of trade and transport links in the region, the expansion of transit opportunities, and the further improvement of border-crossing procedures.
The optimization of customs procedures along the Middle Corridor, acceleration of transit operations, and strengthening of practical interaction among customs services were identified as key priorities at the meeting.
It was emphasized that strengthening coordination among the customs authorities of the three countries serves to ensure more efficient use of regional transport and logistics opportunities. The sides exchanged views on further developing cooperation to facilitate transit operations within the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project, expand electronic data exchange, and increase the efficiency of border-crossing processes.
As important areas of trilateral cooperation, attention was focused on harmonizing transit customs procedures, improving preliminary electronic data exchange, developing risk management mechanisms and increasing the efficiency of customs control, as well as strengthening cooperation in combating customs offenses.
The importance of strengthening coordinated activities among the customs services in these areas was emphasized in terms of ensuring more flexible organization of freight transportation, accelerating border-crossing processes, and ensuring the continuity of the international trade chain, and the protocol of the meeting was signed.
