Clashes erupt during Friday protest in Jordan

Baku-APA. Several Jordanians were injured Friday during a pro-reform protest in Jordan’s capital of Amman, as the police says seven of its members also suffered injuries when interfering clashes between demonstrators and a pro- government group, APA reports referring Xinhua.

During the sit-in in downtown Amman, over 2,000 Jordanians marched from Al Husseini Grand Mosque through the streets, calling for uprooting corruption in the country and speeding up genuine reforms.

According to eye-witnesses, the demonstrators were beaten by the police members who used batons to disperse the crowds.

The demonstration, during which some people including several journalists were reported to be injured, was organized by youth groups in the Arab kingdom and attended by activists and Islamists.

Meanwhile, Public Security Directorate (PSD) spokesperson Lt. Colonel Mohammad Khatib said that seven policemen were injured, including two stabbed as they were trying to end clashes between pro-government and anti-government demonstrators, the official Petra News Agency reported.

In the governorates of Tafileh, Maan, Karak and Jerash, Jordanians also held demonstrations, calling for prosecuting the corrupt and demanding the reform of the government.
