An international congress titled "The First Turkological Congress: A Century of Scientific and Cultural Heritage" was held as part of Turkic World Week dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the First Turkological Congress, APA reports.
The event featured speeches by President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), Academician Isa Habibbeyli, Uzbekistan's Minister of Culture Ozodbek Nazarbekov, President of the Turkic Academy Shahin Mustafayev, and others.
Isa Habibbeyli said a new generation of researchers studying the culture, history, and literature of all Turkic peoples should be trained.
"This process has already begun. Certain work is being carried out, dissertations are being defended, and monographs are being published," he said.
He noted that the main goal of the First Turkological Congress is to strengthen the integration of Turkic peoples, advance the science of Turkology, and reinforce the unity and cooperation of Turkic peoples in all areas of Turkological studies.
Speaking later, Uzbekistan's Minister of Culture Ozodbek Nazarbekov said the unity of the Turkic world must be strengthened.
"The threats we face today show that no people or nation is immune to them. Unity is essential to protect ourselves from these threats because major changes are taking place in international politics. Therefore, meetings and congresses like this must be held. We must sincerely understand this and convey it as one of the most important tasks to our young people and future generations," he said.
The event also highlighted the importance of unity among the Turkic peoples.
It was emphasized that the First Turkological Congress aims to strengthen the integration of Turkic peoples, develop the science of Turkology, and enhance the unity and cooperation of Turkic peoples in all areas.
Later, a group of cultural and public figures from Turkic countries received the commemorative badge "100th Anniversary of the First Turkological Congress (1926–2026)."
Among those honored were President of the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) Muzaffer Şeker, President of ANAS Academician Isa Habibbeyli, Chairman of the Yunus Emre Institute Professor Abdurrahman Aliy, Director of the Nasimi Institute of Linguistics of ANAS Professor Nadir Mammadli, Director of the Institute of Manuscripts Teymur Karimli, Director of the Institute of Folklore Hikmat Guliyev, Doctor of Philological Sciences, and others.
The event continued with panel sessions titled "The Turkic World and International Scientific Cooperation" and "Perspectives on Turkic History and Ideological Approaches."
