China sees positive role for Poland in promoting China-EU relations
He Guoqiang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the CPC, made the remarks during a meeting with Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski in the northern Polish seaside resort of Gdansk.
"China attaches great importance to its relations with the EU," He said, hoping Poland can play an important role in helping solve the existing problems in trade and other areas between China and the EU.
Komorowski, for his part, said his country can provide positive conditions for cooperation between the EU and China, adding Poland will take advantage of the rotating presidency to further promote bilateral ties.
He arrived in Warsaw on Tuesday evening, kicking off a four-day official visit to the Eastern European country.
China and Poland has enjoyed traditional friendly ties as Warsaw was among the first in the world to establish diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China more than 60 years ago.
Relations have gained new momentum in recent years as the booming Chinese economy serves as an important market for Poland.
Bilateral trade volume in 2010 increased 23.8 percent over the previous year to reach 11.14 billion U.S. dollars, a record high. Poland has been the largest trading partner in the Central and Eastern Europe for China during the past six years.
Komorowski plans to visit China later this year at the invitation of the Chinese side, aimed at closer bilateral ties.
He said the upcoming visit will help make new progress on China-Poland cooperation in all areas.
The Chinese leader also said the CPC wants to build and develop friendly and cooperative relations with major Polish political parties as part of efforts to push forward the overall bilateral relationship.
On Thursday evening, He met with local officials in the Lesser Poland region in the southern city of Cracow to explore potentials for cooperation between Chinese and Polish local governments.
He left Poland for Turkey where he will make a stopover.
Poland is the second leg of He’s five-nation tour which will also take him to Serbia, the United Arab Emirates and Iran.
